The registration deadline for our CANO spring workshop is one week away - Friday, April 16th.

Our two excellent guest speakers (Dan Steeves B. Ed, D.A.U.S, Stop Smoking Specialist & Scott Janssen, MSW,RSW, Clinical Team Leader, Addiction Prevention and Treatment Services) will highlight the crucial role that health care providers play in promoting smoking cessation.

You will learn why patients (and loved ones) have particular difficulty quitting, the harmful impact of nicotine addiction and how we as healtcare providers can have "teachable moments" that can positively affect a health behavior change.

"Successful cancer treatment can be significantly compromised by continued tobacco use.  Because motivation and interest in smoking cessation increase after cancer diagnosis, a window of opportunity exists during which healthcare providers can intervene and assist in the quitting process... Continued smoking after cancer diagnosis has substantial adverse effects on treatment effectiveness, overall survival, risk of second primary malignancies, and quality of life."
